After the fall of Majapahit, during the reign of Sultan Trenggono of Demak in the early 16th century, concerns arose about the emergence of a new kingdom in the eastern region, in what is now Malang, called the Supit Urang kingdom.
It was led by a former Majapahit noble, Adipati Ronggo Permono Senggoro, who refused to submit to Demak due to differences in belief. A war ensued, and Adipati Ronggo Permono Senggoro was killed at Bukit Buring.
