The Shadow Tent

The Shadow Tent is a transportable, do-it-anywhere shadow puppet theatre. Created in 2024 The Shadow Tent brings the magic of shadow puppetry to non-traditional theatre spaces (museums, community centres, schools and even the great outdoors) making the art form accessible to a wider audience, and prioritizing spaces that the public can access for free.

The shows within the tent contain no language, which makes them accessible to peoples from all language backgrounds, as well as to people who are deaf or hard of hearing.

After the show audience members are invited behind the tent to try some shadow puppetry for themselves, this creates an unparalleled opportunity for the discovery of magic within the mechanical nature of puppetry. There is wonder available for young and old, those who are familiar with the art form and those who have never seen it before.

Currently Little Chaos has created two shows in the shadow tent, Moondance and In Colour: Moondance and In Colour:

Moondance
Moondance is the story of a young girl coping with loneliness, finding magic and going on an adventure that changes her perspective.

In Colour
In Colour follows a young fellow as he explores nature to restore all the colours of the rainbow, finding friends along the way.

Little Chaos Co.

Little Chaos Co. manufactures whimsy, wonder and cacophonous joy. A strong belief in the power of the extraordinary compels us to be constantly searching for visually creative ways to tell stories. Founded in 2024 in Toronto, Canada, Little Chaos came together to create an innovative new shadow puppetry experience with the development of our shadow tent theatre.

Our first shadow tent show, Moondance, debuted at the Royal Ontario Museum in January 2024. The show played at festivals around Toronto including Concrete Cabaret and the Fresh Ideas in Puppetry Festival, and returned to the ROM for a month long run of shows in July. In November the same year, Moondance had its international debut at the Harmony World Puppet Innovation Festival in Bangkok, Thailand. Our second show, In Colourdebuted at the ROM in December 2024 and has since played at Concrete Cabaret Toronto and the Toronto International Buskerfest 2025.

The group is comprised of Co-Puppeteers Sequoia Erickson and Robin Kadirgamar, they create their work in a hands-on, ad-hoc style using visual storyboarding and trial and error to craft their whimsical shadow puppet shows.
